Story Behind the Painting

Celebrate Easter

Easter is the Hope of every Christian. It is day when our Savior took away our sin! Here you will find Easter ideas and the meaning of Easter.

Our Delema

Our guilt and shame weighed heavily upon us. The burden of our sin could not be covered or hidden by any quantity of good works. Therefore, we were dreading the day when we would stand before the judge of all the earth. The books would be opened and every thought and motive of our heart would be revealed.

Perhaps we thought it would be a good day. Maybe, we compared ourselves to others and thought, “I am not as bad as so and so. Surely, I will be found to be a good person.” In reality, when you are guilty in a court of law, a judge does not ask: “Are you a good person? Do you help others?”. Certainly, he will say, “You broke the law. As a result, you must pay the penalty.” In the same way, if we break God’s law the penalty is eternal death in the lake of fire. Consequently, all who reject God’s amazing free gift will be sentenced there.

The Solution

This free gift is so wonderful! God took our punishment when he died on that Passover day. As the Passover Lambs were being sacrificed, he was being nailed to the cross. Just as John the Baptist said, “Behold the Lamb, who takes away the sins of the world.”

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” To receive this gift we must “turn away from our sins and believe that our old self was crucified with him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin.” See Romans 6:23 and Romans 6:1-7

“Repent, and let every one of you be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38 This is the good news. It is the free gift of God to everyone who receives it.

Make it Fun!

First, we made a cross by nailing two boards together. Secondly, we wrote down hurtful or selfish things that we had done on sticky notes and pasted them on the cross. Next, we discussed how we all have sinned and that the price of our sin will be death. However, Jesus paid that price for us by dying on a cross like this.

Next, we set up a small tent to represent the tomb. Then, we “buried” the papers in the tomb and shut the door.

Finally before the kids were up, we replaced the “sins” with treats and opened the door to the tent.
